November was slow—honestly, probably the slowest month of the year. We had a few tough trips where conditions just didn’t line up, and that’s fishing. Some days you grind and come up empty, but that’s part of the game.
December, however, has been a completely different story. When there aren’t many boats around, the fishing seems to turn on. We’ve already seen some big days offshore.
Yesterday was a standout day with four blue marlin landed and two more lost. The day before, we hooked three blue marlin and landed all three.
The EZ Pickens, a 54’ Viking, had a strong weekend as well, landing three blue marlin. One of them was around 450-500 pounds.
As we move deeper into the winter months, fishing should only improve, with a greater variety of billfish showing up — blue marlin, striped marlin, and spearfish.
Good conditions, fewer boats, and consistent action are setting up for a good winter.
